Course Overview
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580):
An essential subject for all learners, Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is a fully examined course that encourages the development of mathematical knowledge as a key life skill and as a basis for more advanced study. The syllabus covers various topics, including number, algebra, geometry, mensuration, statistics, probability, and sets. It aims to develop learners’ competency, confidence, and fluency in their use of techniques with and without the use of a calculator, cultivating mathematical understanding. The course also places a strong emphasis on solving problems in mathematics and real-life contexts, promoting appropriate presentation and interpretation of results, and encouraging learners’ understanding of how to communicate and reason mathematically.
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (9-1) 0980:
The Cambridge IGCSE (9-1) Mathematics 0980 is the same as the Mathematics 0580 curriculum, except it is marked on a 9-1 grading system, as in the case of Edexcel. It encourages learners to develop their mathematical ability as a key life skill and as a strong basis for further study of mathematics or to support skills in other subjects. The syllabus is tiered to allow candidates of all abilities to achieve and progress in their mathematical studies.
A-Level Mathematics
Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics (9709):
The Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics course builds on the skills acquired at Cambridge IGCSE (or equivalent) level. It includes the main theoretical concepts fundamental to the subject, current applications of mathematics, and a strong emphasis on advanced practical skills. The course encourages creative thinking and problem-solving skills, making it ideal for learners who want to study mathematics or related subjects at university or pursue a career in science.
Edexcel A-Level Mathematics:
The Edexcel A-Level Mathematics course is designed to develop mathematical knowledge and skills. It covers pure mathematics, mechanics, and statistics, providing a solid foundation for further study in mathematics or related subjects at university or for employment.
IB Mathematics:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers mathematics at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). The course aims to develop mathematical knowledge and skills, as well as an appreciation of the international dimensions of mathematics and the multiplicity of its cultural and historical perspectives. It encourages an understanding of mathematics and the construction of arguments, and the use of mathematical models, and it promotes inquiry and problem-solving skills.
